Problems faced by rural India

Around 69% population of India lives in rural areas, which is majorly dependent on farming. Distribution of main workers by industrial category shows that agriculture sector still employs largest number of workers. The dependence on agriculture is brought out by the fact that of the 313 million main workers in the country, 166 million (56.6%) has been engaged in ‘Agricultural and allied activities’.

Farmer suicides account for around 11% of all suicides in India, with reasons primarily attributed to adverse agro-climatic conditions.

People in rural areas have to move to urban areas to find jobs, but they are unable to get jobs and face problems due to number of reasons :

1. No opportunities as no business in rural areas
2. Incomplete education and no knowledge of opportunities in education or business or even agriculture
3. Skills gap for other jobs and sometimes for farming too
